The Sociolinguistics Cluster has measured street use and the result is that activity in Basque is decreasing. And if only that were empty. In addition, the number of interviews in Basque in Gipuzkoa is 31%, but 9% in Bizkaia and 5/6% in the rest. They say that one in eight people is on the street in Euskera, and that's what we keep for the last five years.
They say that in all territories the election of the elderly in Basque has decreased. They've gone from talking more or almost more to talking less. That said and knowing what the mortality rate of older people has been during the epidemic… but, although it’s not a matter of laughing, let’s still not lose our mood.
"Why do we have more and more knowledge of our language if we don't use it? Why not life? Why the earth?"
Because the situation we “live” among young people and adolescents is not to start touching the chestnuts. They say they have lived happier in the COVID-19 epidemic, entering home, spending the day in front of Play, Facebook... or whatever, without having to account for anyone, with the support of their parents' meals, limited their relationship to that specific moment. When they have had to go to school, the impossible and the deficiencies have emerged: not wanting to live; many have been tempted to commit suicide.
What role does the school have? School means teachers. What should the tutor try, analyze the results and reformulate to the parents what they already know? Should the teacher of any topic give his/her theme and is already, or take into account the mood, psychic, social situation... experienced by the people in front? They say the University prepares creators, initiative people, trained in the mind, but the students who have wondered about it don't look dressed in those characteristics.
And what is the role of the city, the place where housing is built in lots (traditionally called places of residence)? Most street houses just miss the balcony? Why have we been focused on those structured spaces in order to win? How long does the city live and when to live, where have we abandoned/forgotten it? Bo, and we cannot forget evictions, occupations, etc.
We've failed to use it and we're doing it, so why do we have more and more people who don't use our language? Why not life? Why the earth? Empty villages, ecology, school, studies… immigrants…
