Religion in public school
By amending the Education Act, the Spanish Government allowed the autonomous communities to reduce the weekly weight of the subject of religion by one hour, both for private school and public school. Why is religion offered at public school? Because, forty-three years later, no one in the Spanish Congress has yet started the process of repealing the agreement. Neither the PSOE (of course), nor Podemos, ERC, Bildu, More Country… nobody.
The abolition of the agreement signed with the Vatican is an ethical necessity. Look, if not, your first article says: "In any case, the education provided in public centers will respect the values of Christian ethics." More barbaric! Should education in public schools respect Christian ethics? Why?

Remember, therefore, the law that must be complied with by the international treaty. Remember that the educational law to be discussed in the autumn in the CAV will also have to necessarily offer religion. In other words, the Basque public school will not be secular… until the Spanish Congress repeals the agreement. At most, the Basque law will reduce the weight of the subject of religion by one hour, as the Government of Aragon has long been doing. Clearly, the reduction of religion at one hour of the week will not turn the Basque public school into secular.
If you want the public school to be truly secular, the leftist parties will have to act immediately. Not incorporating bills in Congress, but initiating the process of repealing the agreement. First of all, the derogation by an absolute majority of Congress must be approved. Then, every year, it must be ratified, again by an absolute majority. This is the only way to repeal the concordate and achieve a secular public school.
Until this happens, the bishops of each country will continue to opt freely for the teachers of the public school, without any contestant process. And they will continue to dismiss the teachers of the public school freely, without being compensated: the money will be provided by the education departments of the autonomous communities.
Until then, those who do not want the Catholic religion outside the public school will have the perfect excuse for the bishops to keep at all costs the teachers at their disposal, even if they do not have enough hours of study. As Navarre Suma and Geroa Bai have recently done.
