Photos in changing rooms
A year ago the tweet of a football coach with almost 30,000 followers said: “The locker room of a sports team, the sacred place, where everything that happens is there… whoever does not respect and does not understand this, will never be part of a team.” While receiving answers full of admiration, the professionals working on the prevention of sexual violence in sport read these words with anguish.
We are aware that the costume is essential to strengthen the group, and that the conversations, debates, celebrations, happiness and sadness of it play an important role in the nature of the group. We can also say that it influences body diversity, acceptance of one's own body and the other, and self-concept and self-esteem. However, all the positive emotions and values mentioned can be reflected in the opposite direction if there are situations of discrimination and/or violence in the dressing rooms. In fact, the chances of bullying or sexual abuse increase in these spaces, especially when it comes to minors.

On the other hand, paradoxically, in a showcase society that has blurred the limits of personal privacy, photographs of athletes who have the t-shirt or removed inside the locker room are brought to our attention. Usually men, often accompanied by gestures that proudly express masculinity. In addition, one does not have to look strictly to realize that in these images there are hardly any bodies that are not coarse or normative. Adult, professional and modal athletes should be aware that when explaining this type of behavior they observe children and young people, and that most of them accept and copy these behaviors without being aware that the risk they pose to them is high because they completely lose control of the image and increase the probability of suffering abuse.
The dressing room is an intimate space that claims to be an instrument that promotes, as far as possible, the autonomy of minors, the strengthening of relationships and the recognition of physical and identity diversity, whenever it is a safe and healthy space. And for this to happen, we adults have the responsibility and the role. On the one hand, to ensure that violence does not occur without the presence of adults in the dressing room, through education and concrete measures; and on the other, to critically reflect and make responsible decisions about the meaning of the publication of photographs inside the dressing room.
