With carved stone blows, Uxue Apaolaza has healed a job in exact and refined ways. He has created nine stories and brought them together under the title The Platform of the Curve. Although they are read fluently and easily, I encourage you to reread in order to discover their layers.
If we look at the skin, the title and the image give us clues about what we will find inside. On the one hand, the Pier of the Curve, together with the internal mention, will remind us of the platform of the metro curve and the attention that must be given when leaving on it, and that all roads are not correct. On the other hand, we have a red fish that pulls the head and the body out of the water, a symbol of the emotion felt by those outside their usual environment.
The protagonist is Lur, a 40-year-old working mother. White, heterogeneous and middle-class. Basque resident in Madrid. Among friends, on the street with unknown men, at home with their partner, along with their co-workers, visiting their family or not being able to sleep in bed on these pages.
“I wear a soft dress,” the narrator tells us in the story “Kaptaile” and says in the story “Auto Beltza.” In the story Processionariak brings back “Dress with flowers bought in the trail of Madrid to five euros”, dress “Dress to be what you would like to be”, according to the seller. The word “Normal” is repeated many times, speaking of those around him, tells us that he is out of him and that he has his desire: he will speak of “happy adults”, “young singers”, “weeping children”. Because the dress is not common for some women, even if it is women's clothing.
But at the same time, jonkiak, puts, beggars and Romanians appear 20 euros in the stories Un equipo y Manoletinas, the "others" that will turn the protagonist into "normal". Therefore, the privileges and oppression of the main character will be rejoiced, conflicts and imbalances will appear. Job insecurity also appears and disappears. And family, motherhood, sex. Earth is a rooted uprooted, part of the system, but not part of it. An opportunity for self-criticism and reflection for readers, an opportunity to immerse themselves in the game of identity and otherness.
