It's Friday noon and the Euskal musika ez tristea folder that I've seen off my work computer, besides smiling, has reminded me that we have a date at dusk in the gaztetxe Sugarra, in Estella. They say that the collective will play for the second time in front of the public, for the second time in the gaztetxe of Estella.

Today behind this name are the trombone, the tenor saxo, the trumpet, the battery, bass and guitar. Amets, Aitor, Julen, Ander, Beñat and Iban. The six musicians are well known, although they are going to dedicate themselves for the second time to the stage as a collective. All of them have passed through the Conservatory Superior de Música de Navarra, although two have returned to their home town and a third has been signed (stolen) by ESMUC.

Although each member has participated or participated separately in other projects (Jahgoikoa and Reggaezarra, Oxidil, Broken Brothers Brass Band, Audience, Joseba Tapia, Subajah Band…), the sextet travels the world of jazz. There is one issue that concerns them: in the environment in which they move, in the popular environment, there is no space to act as young and Basque jazz musicians. Beyond traditional standards, they focus on their compositions. Ander produces his pieces from the history of Amets Arzallus and the book Miñan by Ibrahima Balde. The beautiful Spring Lora of Oskorri is the Ezains-Dantza, the bed with the alboka of one of the compositions of Aitor. We've also heard Julen Tarima take off. In Beñat they sing in threesome format, with no wind. The songs of each put their instrument in the middle and this one from Beñat reminded me that, if you like, the bass can also be a melodic instrument. Lilia, from double bass player Ander García, also offers a version of the beautiful escape song: “I’m going to give this song, to which you will listen, to the prosperous land…”, six mouths to capella.

Julen has been the guide for the performance, it is noted that he is at home “Kintxo and son of María Puy”. I do not know if we use this programme with the green dots to tell the people, but I would say that we have met a hundred people (considering that it is always being rounded up). The two euros we have paid will be allocated by the group to pay the last fines received by the Gaztetxe de Rochapea. They say that the collective is collective, because what is meant is that the group that today appears as a sextet can be quintet or octet in the coming period and do not have to be the same as today.

A little bird has told me that some threads have started to move so that the third installment is not in Estella and I can anticipate that there is a room on the way… I would not lose it and will not lose it (alone) because they are my friends. Benga, Euskal Herria, some non-sad music, we have a lot to compensate for.
