Many people don’t know that Iseo is from Barañain and his family is from
Lumbier… Yes, because I was very young here. First to Barcelona, to study translation and then to Madrid. In addition, we always travel from one side to the other. However, when I can come to Lumbier to be quiet. I need it.
What was Barcelona for you?A great
city and the possibility and need to start from scratch. Suddenly you don't know anyone and nobody knows you.
One night I went to the bar El Mediterráneo. There someone sang every night and I thought I wanted to be there as well. I talked to my owner, tried and started playing every week. It became my second home! There, I learned to be in public. Being so small, I was very close to people. Big sites seem to be more difficult, but they're not. And there I went through everything. One day, I was a single person, and for her, I did my whole performance.
You too Jaio.Musika.Hil?
Totally. Since we were young at home, we've always had music around us in a very natural way. The mother touched the flute traverse, the father played the bombardment in the charanga Jarauta 69, the uncle and all the cousin premiums touched something. In addition, I believe that for the people of my generation in Barañáin it was a great opportunity to expand the music school Luis Morondo. Thanks to that, the audience has learned music. I started playing the piano when I was 6. In addition at home we have always been lovers of singing. At Lumbier, for example, at Christmas, we took two or three guitars and made a full songwriter with a few chords.
I've always had the Internet very close, and that's allowed me to hear new music. At 12-13, I listened to Cristina Aguil, Back Street Boys, Spice Girls... When I was 15 years old, we made with some friends the Cronos Syndrome group to sing the versions and I wrote my first song at the age of 18-19, when I was in Barcelona.
Impacts come from all places. From there, and it's also touched me to explore my way of singing.
"The situation in France, for example, has nothing to do with the situation here. Artists are entitled to social security and unemployment if there are more than 30 concerts a year"
And have you ever worked as a translator?
Because at first I couldn't live just from music, I did some projects. One of them was the translation of Fermin Muguruza's black is script, and I also participated in the soundtrack of the film.
In addition, I've worked in education, as a speaker, a story in an audio book -- but music has been gaining more and more weight in my life.
How did you make the decision to be a professional? That
moment is very difficult. When I went to Madrid, I felt that I had to make a decision. I was making music, my first solo album and Iseo & Dodosoundena were already on the street. At the end of graduate school, it was clear that I wanted to make music, and I decided to try it out. Almost everyone in the art world thinks, in some way, that we have to look for a “serious” job and dedicate to the other, our hobby, the time that is left for us. But in those leftover sections, you don't have a head or a mood to work. At the time I decided to turn music into my work and dedicate all my quality time to it.
At first it's not all carpet and purpurpurine, it's clear. The key was that I told the music that opportunity. Life is very short and you have to prove it. Fear is very comfortable and sometimes even excuse. I am aware that I had the help of my parents and that everyone does not have it, but for fear we do not have to sit down.
Are the conditions of artists from other places better?
I have spent several seasons outside, especially learning languages, and the situation in France, for example, has nothing to do with the situation here. There they are entitled to social security and unemployment if there are more than 30 concerts a year. Iseo & Dodosound offered 150 concerts in the year and a half on the last tour, for example, and we had no help.
In the performances we often see how a group of small towns next door opens a festival with an extraordinary level. This is where the investment in music and art in general is appreciated.
Many times to me, especially at first, people asked me if I was paid to make music, as surprised. Today it is still difficult to understand music as a trade.
Does money come from the sale of records?
Economically, the main source of revenue is concerts, but with vinyl we have been surprised mucho.En about our musical style, vinyl has a great value. Our two albums are sent to Europe, the United States and all over the world.
What do you have with Dodor is an unsearched story?
Totally. He's from Cizur and I from Barañáin. In the scene of the Region of Pamplona we all know each other. He was with Raperos de Emmaus since he was 15, and in 2013 we met. He met me in an interview I got done on Radio 3. So I looked for myself and we stayed to take a reed. We handed ourselves our models, and he proposed to do something together. When you don't have a lot of purpose, interesting things come out.
My composition form was totally organic, a guitar and a notebook, and all of a sudden we were in front of the computer with a program and a keyboard. For me it was like a Martian murder program. A kind of video game. However, we computed half a disk in two or three months. We were enjoying. He had a lot of DJ shows here, with Rock's Saxo tenor, and I also started going with them. I would go out in the middle of the session and sing songs that we had just done. At the beginning it was like this, but at the end of the summer, people asked if the girl was going to come and then asked Iseo to come. That's how it was creating the group. We went down to Madrid in September 2014 and in April next we left in Cat Platoon.
From there everything has been very nice. In India we've done two tours, in Latin America we've been three times, in Lithuania, France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom -- and we've been non-stop throughout the state.
Now your third album.
We are planning to turn in 2022. The ZEID festival will be on April 2 one of the first and from there everything else.
Did you advance the joyful single arigato? Will that be the new album?
Yes. It's a celebration. A very interesting album has come out. Arigato is a song of thanks to people everywhere. The pandemic has influenced creation as in all areas. This album will be a kind of hug. We want to encourage people. That has come out without thinking, but there it is, in the letters.
Young people are going wrong with the crisis and the pandemic...
The cuts have been hard. It's been very difficult for people. When you are young you want to do everything outside the house and with this situation you have not been able to do everything.
On the other hand, thanks to the pandemic it has been shown that we all need art, entertainment, culture -- to escape reality or to better understand it. People need concerts and we've seen how this summer people were buying tickets at full speed, despite their high price.
You sang trapped in lockdown.
That’s right, in the kitchen of the apartment of Madrid. It also includes a real phone call. I relate to my mother in the video of the song. Every day I called my parents. The pandemic has been very difficult in cities. Cities are designed to live in many revolutions, and when this breaks, it's hard to live there. You only have the worst of the city, so I've been speeded up by the desire to leave and I've gone to the mountain.
He just published his EP in Euskera in his home. For a new micro, right?
It happened at the end of the summer. We were testing the new microbes that came home. For me, the month of August has always been a melancholy month. Summer is a very lively and confusing time, and at the end of August I feel like going to the village to rest, to be with family and friends. I feel the need to restore order. When we were trying the micros, I picked up the guitar that I had next to me and started singing some songs that I love so much. I didn't know Dodo was recording. You hear dogs, there are mistakes... And when we heard, it surprised us. I decided we had to publish it. It's natural, like life itself. The bird gets stuck in the bird in a chord, and then I fix it, for example. It is noted that it is not prepared. And I think it's nice to take out such a natural and real job, because today everything is very assembled, very corrected, controlled, measured. And natural things don't look. We know that what we see on social media is not real. No defects or wrinkles are shown. Now I live in nature, some things don't matter anymore, I have another position in my appearance... and this idea is very present in this EP.
"I'm in a moment to look inwards, and on the other hand, I've started to feel maturity in my voice. Very interesting question. And it's all 'Iseo'
Why these songs? At the Baldorba house of Benito
Lertxundi we have always heard and sang a lot with my parents. When we give concerts in Euskal Herria we play many times.
Txoria txori is a song I have had close to in recent years. We played a version of this on a tour.
I played the recognition only once, in a concert held in the village one summer night. It's very beautiful.
My hands are very special to me. The first albums by Berri Txarrak I know them from the top down, and when they proposed to sing with them at the concert they held at Kobetamendi in 2019, it was terrible. We sang the Hands and the Survival together and it was terrible.
I think this EP is a small and intimate gift for the gente.Yendo of Madrid I am in another new phase and I think that is what you notice in these songs. I'm in a moment of looking inwards, and on the other hand, I've started to feel maturity in my voice. It's a very interesting question. And it's all Iseo.
Do you intend to do something direct?
When I got it out I thought it might be nice to do some concert talks, but I decided to respect the process of creating the third album of Iseo & Dodosound. Making a record is like pregnancy. Long, there are hard and good times, and we decided to finish this first. I'm not in a hurry with anything.
We have had a very nice and real response from people and the media. Truly, thank you all! When you work with feelings, it influences people, even if you don't know those people, and that's the most beautiful thing about music.
How do you see the scene? Is there a great movement in the Region of Pamplona? There has always been a lot of movement on the scene of the Region of Pamplona, but it is true that lately it is very moving and that
is very bien.El panorama
is very interesting at this moment. In difficult times, there is a lot of creative work. In Europe, at the time of interwar, all the avant-gardes emerged in a very short time. When things are difficult you have to look for a leak point and with the pandemic something similar is happening. I see it as normal that there are so many young people wanting to speak. That is what we need. Maybe without a pandemic, that bor-bor could not be found. We must listen to adults, but never to young people. New ideas, voice styles -- enrich the picture. It's a good symptom that the scene is so active.
On social networks, it disseminates positive mantra since the morning.
Yes. My mantra is on Twitter “today will be good.” In the end, we pick up what we project. These mantra are tools to represent you in a positive place. I have.
