I'm one of those dancing fandango and arin-arin at parties. However, I've come to Gayar to see the dance performance. Even though I heard something, I didn't really know what I was expecting. Ladies have been one of the first to come, but as the time has come to start, many young people have also approached. The drum starts when the lights go out.
Play 'Gernika'
From: Bilaka Collective and Malandain Ballet Academy of Biarritz
When: 30 January
Where: Teatro Gayarre (Pamplona)
Words have been heard in Basque and Spanish. They talk about war, but they look at dance, it's fire-fuel, it's indestructible. I think I caught the thread immediately, although there were no words, the music and the gestures of the dancers have helped me to create the narrative. I am not an expert, and so I cannot list the names of the dances that have been chained one after the other. In those cases it always happens to me, today there has also been envy in me: what capacity for coordination, to move, to express, what elegance…
I was struck by the importance they gave to the sky: Just as the bombs fell from the sky in Gernika, Gay's howitzers have also fallen, spectacular and invisible. Spanish humor and folklore have also had their presence and made the public laugh on a couple of occasions. However, I believe that those of us who have been there have joined the most exciting moment. After the bombing, one of the dantzaris leaves under the stones and mounts a dead horse in the aliso. From the silence, a fine but firm voice continues to sing him, which Haika has later become a boy. It's been long, simple, exciting, but mostly beautiful. Then came the only one I've seen to the whole show. I think the atmosphere that's gotten is broken with a dance, and I haven't understood that.
In the end, the dantzaris have put themselves in the song to convey a clear message: Our future. Meanwhile, as a reference to Picasso’s paintings, a light appears at the top. Then they have left flowers on the ground. If I am excited by the applause, I do not want to think about what the stage people in Pamplona have experienced. I am proud and pleased to greet the closest abroad. It is no less, the work done has made them deserving of heat.
