This is the third work written in four hands by Zelaieta and Arnal, if we are not mistaken. First were the screws, then came the last trick of the Grand Tatxani, and now the teachers of Vitoria bring us Berta Berezi.
In their works the authors have used humor, word games and a great vitality, and on this occasion we can also say that change can be longer, as instead of a story we are told the stories of a special girl.
At the beginning of this work, divided into seven chapters, we are told the appearance/presentation of Berta. On the first day of class a new girl appears in class and Berta will respond strangely to the challenge that the teacher has launched: “I know you may find it hard to introduce yourself now, all of a sudden, to your peers, but would you like to say something so that we can all meet you?” Before he was born, he communicated with the doctor from his mother’s abdomen, so “NASA astronauts decided to put Berta’s name in their helmets before going out into space. Berta, with big B.”
As any reader can see, Berta does not lack imagination, nor courage to throw away the stories that occur to him. And those characteristics are precisely those that make Berta such a beautiful, peculiar, different and special girl (with the big B), that makes the reader smile with its exits.
In addition to the presentation, the book has six other sections, each of which tells a story of Berta and his friends, from the moment they went to the mushrooms, the day they made the firecracker explode or the competition for jumping out of the pool, to quieter events, which explain the technique of kissing, or “that of Jon’s grandmother,” which can be especially exciting.
The book reads quickly and can be read in parts because although the characters are the same, the facts have nothing to do with it, if not gradually we will get to know Berta better and better, and the reader will enjoy the stories of this crew of boys and girls, which is the feeling that at the end, at least to me, I have left the book, which has no end. In other words, after the last episode, we are waiting for the following. Perhaps the authors' four hands are already working on the preparation of the new stories of Berta Berezi and his friends...
