Bilbao Orkestra carefully thinks about the programs it offers in its subscription cycle. The latter was no exception and was completed by three works of great interest for various reasons.
On the other hand, the direction carried out by the former managing director of the group, Günter Neuhold, was another element that led to the success of the concert. In this direction, at all times, careful sound was imposed, clear contrasts and, in the case of the concert for piano and orchestra, the perfect dialogue between the orchestra and the soloist.
The concert started with the delicious piece On the cliffs of the Cornwall, prelude to the second installment of the opera The Wreckers, composed by Ethel Smyth. The British composer who lived between the 19th and 20th centuries was a good musician and leader sufragista.Compuso many works and his work was admired by the composers of his time. For her part, she was the first woman to be able to represent her operas at Metropolitan in New York. Bilbao Orkestra knew how to get all the juice out of this composition, highlighting the puppet richness of the work.
Then, concert for piano and orchestra No. 2 of Saint-Saëns in lower sun, op. They played 27, starring the Croatian pianist Martina Filja. Mrs Filjak is one of the best soloists in recent years. He won the 2009 Cleveland International Piano Competition and on the piano he holds a really beautiful and personal sound.
He performed the concert in a very delicate way, with amazing crystal sounds and delightful and beautiful frills. But perhaps his small mistake lies in his virtue. Without denying that the interpretation was personal and excellent, Filjak has a rather sweet, excessive side in the first movement, from my point of view. However, it demonstrated great safety and technical mastery in the second and third difficult movement of the work. In addition, he gave us a piano piece from the Estonian Arvo Pärt and the soloist surprised the audience with the cold and tint sound he got.
Tchaikovsky Programme 5. It ended with a powerful and shining symphony, charged with garb and forcefulness by the sum of Neuhold. A very good concert.
