I never thought about relating the artistic movement known as Cubism, the theory of relativity and the modernist literary mainstream; to a lesser extent, trying to numb that link. I have recently had the opportunity to read the work of researcher Schwartz, who works at the International Physics Center in San Sebastian, and has raised an interesting approach: the importance of jointly analyzing interdisciplinary knowledge. To this end, he takes as reference Picasso, Einstein and Joyce, well-known, who shared the same historical moment and were part of the movements that broke with the traditions that preceded them. It is possible that each area of knowledge wants to respond to the common challenges that existed at the time, as if they were somehow subjected to collective behavior.
The author has used the science of networks for analysis from the Wikipedia database, that is, he has created a kind of map of articles that relate to the three authors and that are represented by nodules. Thus, the nodules stacked around one of the authors represent the density of the knowledge generated in this field, and through the nodules situated in that space between authors the three disciplines are joined together creating a map in the form of a spider web. Although it is observed that the link between the three movements is evident, in the image the link between the artistic and the literary predominates.
"Although specialization has contributed a great deal, to say that it compartmentalizes knowledge is not a nonsense"
With the reading of the research work, inevitably, I was led by movements that we could conjugate in the recent history of our country. For example, eleven initiatives that emerged under the Franco dictatorship and were explained several times by their parents. These contradictions were very diverse: those that wanted to promote Basque culture, others based on literature, also those related to sculpture and painting, labor movements, music, contributions from feminism, the promotion of the social economy and, of course, the revitalization of language. However, as shown in Schwarreta's article, I found it difficult to obtain references from the various fields of the so-called experimental sciences to the aforementioned movements. And there are.
In general, the disciplines we have defined in us leave little room for flexibility. Among other things, at the university teaching and research are also carried out in a rigid way, since the walls of faculties would constitute a limit. Although specialization has contributed a great deal, to say that it compartmentalizes knowledge is not a nonsense. I have thought several times about the logic of the disciplines that were formed at the birth of the academy, at the time when geometry, music, astronomy, mathematics or philosophy itself was considered interrelated learning.
Knowledge will be generated by answering the questions to be asked to deal with problems or difficulties encountered at a given time. As times change, new questions will emerge that will necessarily have to be rooted or transformed into pre-existing knowledge. The global and local challenges that we face as a people have very varied margins, and it will be imperative to try to give a multidisciplinary response to all of them, because there is no one left behind.
I am aware that in our country, many of us, from many small places, are doing many small things. And by adding up, as Galeano said, we can transform our little world.

The housing problem is a structural problem that comes from far away. What should be a human right is nothing more than a subjective right. I say that it is a fraud because, although all the institutions and all the political parties say nice words, they do not grasp the... [+]

We have been hearing the views of Iñigo Errejón on the accusations of male violence in all media and social media for a few weeks. In addition, many controversies are emerging: how we should denounce women, how our sexual relations should be, recognition, silences of those who... [+]
There are those who say that elections serve only to give legal status to political decisions. And there are not very many who think that way. Okay, but with that, a lot of things are said, among other things, that real power, power, is out of that game.
But, in my view,... [+]

Five decades later, we seem to be leaving behind the Washington Consensus. The climate crisis and, above all, the rise of China have reinvented the interest in leadership and the active participation that the country should have in the economy. The former austerity managers,... [+]
