In this second installment of the ABAO opera cycle, we are faced with two well-known titles that are loved by the public, with a common universal theme: jealousy and revenge. Both in Cavalleria rusticana and in Pagliacci, jealousy and rabbis dazzle those who feel rejected for their love and commit crimes to satisfy their anger and envy.

The context of Sicily “breaks and scratches” was fully reflected in the Euskalduna scenario with the staging of Cavalleria rusticana. With a simple assembly and excellent lighting, the environment was recreated in which the patient Santuzza brings his great love to death. Ekaterina Semenchuk performed the wonderful Shrines in voice and gestures. Simple, no excesses and very credible. Jorge de León, in the role of Turiddu, also acted high and the shocking Elena Zilio. The mezzo is 80 years old and played the role of Mamma Lucia with excellent vocal power and great energy.

However, we can say that the peak of the night came with Pagliacci. Here, the tenor Jorge de León showed all its splendor. He worked freely on the stage and at all times controlled his powerful voice. The famous Aria Vesti la Giubba was heard round in his voice. Similarly, the Sevillian soprano Rocío Ignacio, on the role of Nedda, had fun and the baritone Ambrogio Maestri, like Tonio, sang elegantly on his pages.
He crowned the interpretations with the concrete support of the Orchestra of the Basque Country, under the direction, as never before, of Daniel Rio.
