In July the Chinese celebrated the first centenary of their Communist Party. The trajectory of the Party of these hundred years has had prestigious leaders such as Mao Zedong (1934-1976), Deng Xiaoping (1978-1989) or Xi Jinping (2013-), current secretary general.

In 2019 the Party had 92 million members, 6.6% of the total population and in the mandate of Xi, only 12.3% of the membership applications have been estimated. In order to be partisan, we have to go through hard tests and, in addition to the merits, we have a thorough monitoring of the candidates.

Women in the party represent 28 per cent of their members, 50 per cent have university studies and workers and farmers represent 35 per cent. Company managers are also partisan and allowed to set up businesses, but if the Party instructs an entrepreneur to redirect the business or close a section, it must obey him because he is committed to doing so.

The leaders of the Communist Party carried out a great deal of work to deal with the problem and the political and economic situation of their time. Thus, Mao expelled the Japanese and gained independence from China, expelled the forces of Chian Kai-shek to Taiwan and continued the internal revolution. He supported and supported some Marxist movements around the world, including in the Basque Country.

Deng took over the authority of the Communist Party in 1978 and changed Mao’s political leadership to make the economy more efficient. To this end, it approved the use of the capitalist private management of companies, which was not in contradiction with the socialist political system. The capitalist and socialist model could therefore coincide, but that process should be under the leadership of the Communist Party.

Xi took the lead in 2013 and maintained Deng’s leadership, despite the new challenges: The military challenge of EE.UU, the demand for Taiwan's independence, the contagious industry, the need for electricity, the giant business continuum and its indebtedness, or space competition.

The Communist Party has had its positive and negative aspects. In fact, at the time of Mao it was intended to put the planned model of the Soviet Union and thus to strengthen industry and agriculture. It failed in both goals and the Chinese continued to starve. On the other hand, the Party ' s militants embarked on the Cultural Revolution in 1963, with many members dismissed, imprisoned or executed. However, the economy did not come out of the hole.

However, with the Deng reforms, the economy reached a high speed and in these 40 years 800 million Chinese people have managed to get out of poverty. As a result of the new economic policy, China became attractive to foreign capitals, due to low wages and disciplined workers, which enabled great profits to be made. Yet China's dependence has increased, as we've seen with COVID-19.

In these days of Xi, China has leaped by investing around the world, particularly in Africa, and domestic consumption has been fostered. This expansionist policy has generated fear in the United States and we have begun to hear the voices of the military response. For the future, China’s growth may be threatened by increased spending on the military industry or by space conquest, or by corruption within the Party.
