Fleeing Romanticism
Amaia Arrazola knew she was going to have a daughter, but she didn't know that that daughter was going to have a mother and that that mother was going to be the same. Motherhood is not unique, but there can be as many types of motherhood as the mother, and Arrazola talks about motherhood in the book El meteorite. Through illustration, one can observe the reflections that have led him to become a mother. Because Mother Amaia seemed to have replaced the traveling Amaia, the illustrator Amaia, the reader Amaia… newborn.

The main objective of the vitorian has been to express the confused feelings that are felt at this stage of life. She wanted to highlight the duality between absolute love and the nervousness generated by motherhood, always starting from her personal experience. A meteorite named Ane arrived in Arrazola's life two years ago and the drawings show the insecurity, bravery and generosity of this new experience.
Motherhood disrupts our lives in every way, and the meteorite metaphor perfectly describes this change. It uses the meteorite metaphor that appears in the title of the book in many illustrations and moons and stars have a great presence in the exhibition.
A fleeting star represents a child in the sky, surrounded by planets and satellites in the black and white illustration. A circle that the mother creates when breastfeeding her son also represents the moon and with it comes a phrase: “Being a mother is always afraid, but also having strength and connection and love with life. It is to be a heart beating at full speed.”
This book and exhibition of Amaia distances us from that imaginary idea of motherhood and broadens the vision of real motherhood, showing the lights and shadows of being a mother, fears and joys, fatigue and enthusiasm.
The vitorian established in Barcelona wanted to bring to the exhibition a book that emerged from the reflection and the multiple experiences of life. The bookstore Zuloa has exposed Arrazola and its walls have been filled with illustrations of the book.
