It always happens to us in a similar way. In politics, it is not good to be so credible, but they deceive us over and over again. What am I talking about? Look, a short time ago, and after a long and passionate negotiation, we were led to believe that in Catalonia, in the end, an independent government was formed, distributing the positions of responsibility fifty -fifty and agreeing the President’s office. “It was time! At the end of the day, the logical mandate from the election results has been fulfilled: the independence government has been formed corresponding to the independence majority!”

Inozoa, because the pot has exploded a few days later, from jail, waiting for pardon, opened the letter by ERC chief Oriol Junqueras, provoking an earthquake that buried the same possibility of independence. The following reactions, both in Catalonia and Madrid, have given us the measure of earthquake. On the contrary, silence has predominated in the Basque Country. Perhaps this attitude of ERC has placed in a very uncomfortable place those who previously considered themselves tight allies and embraced it. Now nobody wants to appear in the mirror of Oriol Junqueras, apparently.

That is understandable. From intellectual honesty, because this last attitude of Junqueras is absolutely unacceptable. Not only because it is quite the opposite of what he and his colleagues firmly defended until recently. Further than that, because that current political position does not have any logical coherence in itself, and this must also be known by Junqueras. If you announce that you totally reject unilateral action, say that you will resolve the serious conflict through dialogue, with whom and with the Spanish State, go without any force to that hypothetical dialogue. Forget about independence. Forget about the referendum. Forget about any objective that Spain does not want. You'll get pardon and a little more. And period.

If all this is so obvious, how has ERC taken its political conduct so far? Well, through the theory you can call the independence of the second time. We still have no objective chance of leaping into independence, but now we have to increase the number of supporters, expand it, and on a second occasion, say 20 years from now. This strange and unfounded theory has recently been found in our home, among the allies or followers of ERC. What happens in practice in the development of this “theory”? For political behaviour and even language itself are changing, there is no longer so much talk of independence, but of more ambiguous concepts such as sub-duration, sovereignty or decision-making. Finally, an existing government prevails in the State and, supporting it, helps the State itself to stabilize it, forgetting in practice the cry of our own State. It doesn't look necessary. Instead, improvements to the most dramatic situations, whether pardoned or mitigating the situations of the prisoners, are negotiated with the incumbent government.

What, then, is it to make promises of independence to the citizens, especially on the eve of the elections? What does the formation of majority independence governments come to? What is to be praised for the fact that majorities are sovereign in parliaments? Let us be clear: without a strong street mobilisation, without destabilising and dancing the government of Madrid’s turn, without firmly maintaining our national values and objectives, independence will never be a real opportunity nor will it be credible. We will be subdivided from the existing state if we do not want to go to independence.
