In New Aquitaine, the powerful socialist Rousset points to the second round
The President of the New Aquitaine Regional Council, Alain Rousset, has led the first round with 28.84% of the votes. He is a candidate from the Socialist Party and has retained the seat of the regional president since 1998. He has achieved his first position in twelve district departments.
As in 2015, this time you will also face the extreme right, second in the elections on 20 June. Edwige Diaz, of the Rassememblement National, with 18.21%, managed to move to the second round (although the polls foresee the opposite, the ends of the right in New Aquitaine showed worse results than in 2015).
Persons exceeding 10% of the barrier may be presented for the second round. Thus, the Abian Modem coalition (13.71%), the right-wing Republican party (12.46%) and the ecologist candidate Europe Ecologie (12.08%) can compete.
Once again, Rousset has a rather simple path, seeing that the candidates on the right have difficulty meeting. The Socialist Party and Europe Ecologie are in negotiations with the aim of forming a majority like the previous one.
Turnout was very low (35.91 per cent) and a large abstention is expected for the second round.
In Ipar Euskal Herria the left predominates.
The Socialist Party came out earlier in the Northern Basque Country, concentrating around 25% of the votes and putting the ecologists in second place (around 15%). On the other hand, the extreme right has worse results than at the regional level in the Pyrenees Atlantiques department: Alain Roussetek 29.75% of the votes and Edwige Diaz 13.50%. Participation has also been somewhat higher in the Atlantic Pyrenees: 38.59%.
The nationalists have not tabled any candidates this year, nor have they expressed their support.
