What is Chill Mafia?
A crew from the region of Pamplona. We were born as a crew, but we worked as a collective. In the music we are five people and there are also people who are dedicated to skateboarding, graffiti...

Despite being a group created during the pandemic, they are giving a lot of concerts. How about that?
The presentation tour goes very well. Summer is powerful: Throughout Hego Euskal Herria, in Madrid… In early July we will be at the EHZ Festival… A lot of people come. We were recently in Bilbao. In the Bizkaia room, he belonged to Christ. Two minutes before we started, we came up with an indefatigable bureaucrat saying that we had to remember the people who had to be sitting. I think we didn't like either us or the audience, and after three songs in the middle of the Errotxapea song, we were cut off from the light, because it was late with the excuse, but then people sang entirely with us. It was tremendous. And the next day, very well in the former Bergara prison, plus at midnight the order of removal was over and all night in the street. It was tremendous.

The first game for a long time?
Well, we've seen some pretty underground juerges, almost like the previous COVID-19.
But the police do not stop chasing young people…

This was what a repressive group was missing. They've been given a white card to oppress people. It has been a real slut. The focus has been on young people and young people we are wearing. There are always four gilipollas, but in general we've endured very well, we've almost not made plain potolas. In Mendillorri, in Errotxapea, in Chantrea are the cops to death. Twelve young people are arrested under the mill and want to throw them out of the glass. They are accused of belonging to ETA, but they were 14 years old when ETA left. This is all part of a repressive strategy. All of this was accused of two riots in the neighborhood, and in these times the riots are normal because people are very burned. [Paul] When Hassel was sent to jail, all of Spain was put on fire because it was the last drop that was missing. People are tired of reason and nobody thanks them for anything.

I think so, and maybe it's more. I hope he is wrong.

But you say you're not very sworn, right?
We say no, but the borders are not so clear and much less so here, because in Pamplona we are all known. Furthermore, if you do not say anything about police repression, it is not said that you are not sworn in, but that you are gilipollas. And the same with the hungry people and so on. You're a person and you live in a society, so you can't be out of politics. As we have suffered so much pressure in the Basque Country, when something like this happens we all come together and that is having community.

Is outsiders included in this community?
I think yes, there are also those who do not know Euskera. Moreover, our objective as Basques must be to introduce the Basque into these communities. A MENA [foreign minors who come alone] is fully a member of my community as well as a partner of the ikastola.

Some criticize your Euskañol… Are they distorting the Basque?In the crew of a former classmate, 70% are
Moroccan and they are seeing through our songs that this Basque and Basque roll does not have to be an outdated roll. The obsolete and folkloric dot doesn't work if you want to attract new people.

Also, maybe it's my paranoia, but I've always seen that some young people were at ikastola not because of the love of their parents to the Basque country, but because they didn't want to mix with blacks, Latinos and Gypsies. That has an elitist air of Christ and that must be broken. The Basques are not so special or so different. Perhaps it was good, but today in a working-class neighborhood or in the Ribera with the marking of that identity roll you cannot introduce the Basque. Being Basque is a matter of identity, but belonging to a working-class neighborhood has more strength.

We are proud to speak badly in Basque. A language is made by the speakers and I cannot have a full conversation without including Spanish, and I believe that we do so in the Region of Pamplona. A pity? It's our situation and it's our point.

Does it take a number of speakers to get quality then?
Of course! A perladon: Just as the Basque country had to be picked up at the time and brought to the intellectual world, so as not to be a matter of four baserritars, the opposite is now needed: you have to get out of that intellectual elite and take it to the real world to meet other sectors of society. And to get down to the street, there are some very valuable artistic expressions:

In February, the Chill Mafia phenomenon erupted on the networks with its polemics. Has it been reduced now?

People have had that boom, and maybe I had doubts about our way of defending the direct, but then, watching the concerts, I've understood that we've come to stay. Viral moments are necessary and we look for them. And that there are debates and polemics on social media is very good, even though we sometimes get it wrong. Today, a meme influences marketing much more than an EITB program. Within seconds, 10,000 people can see a meme at no cost to the economy. The media must learn a lot if they want to attract the young people from the memory. Now the clickote technique is used in all traditional media. I don’t know why. In short, it is free advertising. I'm not going to be stupid. It is OK to create alternative networks and media, but that is not enough. Self-management is all very well, but you live in a context, you need the means to produce more music, and if it's contradictory, it's the same. I am not afraid of contradictions. And social media has always been an important part of our lives.

You've signed up with the proctor Last Tour. Are you not going to try to decompose you?
I was afraid to talk to the entrepreneurs, but they know that our freedom is marked as a red border. For example, recently, Last Tour proposed to put the Youtube subtitles in Spanish and we told them no. It's a huge layout. And it's done. If a user wants to do it, but we don't.

Where does the rebirth x, the name of your mixtape come from?
There's a tremendous self-trip. There's a way to reclaim the ego, as the rappers do. I proposed to Flor that he put the “renaissance” and he flipted, which was very high, because I am comparing myself with Renexença, etc., which was intellectual. Then we introduced the “unfortunately” plan... “he still doesn’t understand it, but he thanks us.”

Do you think they have a direct relationship with Dok Amairu?
Yes. For us, their influence is obvious. In addition, we tried to be a collective like them, which brings together various artistic forms, and also the two groups were born driven by the need to create music in Euskera, and we felt that the current situation had to be radically changed. Globally, the top themes are no longer low, but made with guitar and battery, but with computer. That, though, wasn't happening in the Basque Country or at a very low level, and that's why we saw that rebirth was necessary.

Why do they say they make traditional music?
Because tradition never stands still, it's folklore. To be able to overcome previous stages you must first know them, without complexes or nostalgia. We say that Muguruza is a father that we have to kill, for example, because we know all his songs. Without knowing you can't do anything new. Many times we believe that new things are born out of nowhere and it's a lie. In the same way, we also don't have car complexes, because the music we hear uses the fire autotunea. Some, perhaps older ones, think it's only used to conceal mistakes, but for us it's another resource. Our own is the music that is created in our bedroom, with a sound card and a car on fire.

Is the music scene of Euskal Herria very obsolete?The new pop
is rap and it was impossible not to do rap or reggeaton in Basque in Euskal Herria. This change should have come about because those of our generation have those references. We have made ten songs and all very different, because we didn't want to put límites.No there are people without a posture, but we are a piece of cover and therefore we don't have to imitate the style or clothing of the outsiders. In a little while we may agree with the car and Euskañol.

What do they say to those who criticize the reggaeton?
There are some who have a complex Quixote. Zer is out. All of these people should see how funny it is to lose. Some say it's machista, but all the music that's created in this heteropatriarchal model is machista and dot. There are songs and songs, but just focusing on reggaeton has a racist point. How do I have to tell Latinos how they have to talk about sex, also in the language that I impose?

Sex is not bad and having a good time is not bad. We Basques have a problem. Do you apologize for drugs in your songs?
We talk about drugs because they're in our environment. However, a misanalysis is made: marijuana and heroin are drugs, but won't they pay? Furthermore, hiding is not a solution. This is what's going on in their lows, if you don't want to see it, it's your problem. We want to be a reflection of reality, even if that reality is an old deck, and so it is. I only have friends with cannabis who have lost their heads forever. However, drugs are only a social problem in certain neighborhoods. There are a lot of drugs in Gorraiz, but they can manage it differently because they have money. The problem comes more from precariousness than chemistry. The analysis of drugs should not be moral, but sociological. One practical way to help young people is to inform them about what they are entering, for example. In this sense, the Hegoa people work better than the anti-drugs on the left Abertzale. In addition, I've seen a lot of people on the Abertzale left criticizing drugs and going to the bathroom every five minutes. You can't be against camels, but in favor of drugs.

Would you organize a stamp like Yung Beef's Vending with the urban music groups here?
We want to invest everything we gain in our city and we have a very nice relationship with all the groups of the Comarca of Pamplona, but something like The Vendition, which is the stuff of a very specific genre, is nothing but rap. To do something here would be more plural. A person who hears the rap then hears Ibil Bedi and Tatxers, and I think that's super nice. The future is already present.

Ben Yart goes with you?
Of course! Musically, he's our father. He has taught us how things are done. Our highest reference, the best rapper in the Region of Pamplona, is largely part of us.

What do you see from the stage?
We are fortunate that the elderly also serve us. A quarter are old intellectuals, they're stung to see us, and the rest are young of our age.

Do you see the future of the young people in the neighborhoods difficult?
Yes. I don't give him too many laps. I live with my mother, and if I become independent over the next five years, it's going to take up something. That seems good to me, because you can't afford to pay for a house. I want to encourage young people to take care of it, because there are a lot of free houses. I will always stay at Errotxapea.
