The Bilbao Symphony Orchestra has been able to provide agility, entertainment and good performance at the concerts held at the Euskalduna Palace on 18 and 19 March. But when we talk about care, frivolity and entertainment, we're not talking about superficiality, let alone.
On the contrary, we want to value the work we are going to study. What kind of jobs are they? For works of classical music, full of beauty and complex compositional characteristics, but with an aura of “fresh colony”, of clear simplicity. Works that all kinds of audiences like, even those who say they don't understand classical music.
The two works that were interpreted in this concert, in addition to the virtues exposed, were, at the time, innovative and courageous, and each one represented an important change in its genre.
I would venture to say that there is no solo violin who does not interpret Mendelssohn's concert. It's a fundamental work, very beautiful, in the repertoire of the violin. On the other hand, it is one of the first concerts of the violin of romanticism. Although this work introduced innovations and surprised listeners of the time, the success of this concert was total since its premiere.
The version that the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra offered to us along with the soloist Soyoung Yoon was perfectionist and full of color and nuances. This Korean violinist, awarded in important international competitions, demonstrated his extraordinary technique and his excellent sensitivity and ease to show the technical-expressive possibilities of the violin.
The second piece that was given to us by the Bilbao Orchestra was the Sinfonietta by Francis Poulenc. It's not a very well-known but exciting piece that comes very directly to the public. Sinfonietta was composed in 1947 and premiered the following year in London under the direction of Roger Desormière. It's a light music, sometimes satirical, full of popular turns and dance rhythms. This music is filled with charm and ingenuity of the composer and it is worth hearing more often in concert halls.
The Bilbao Symphony, led by Johannes Debus, offered a sparkling interpretation, with a naive touch, which introduced the audience into the pocket.
