I think I've recognized it somewhere, but Santiago Alba Rico always tells me the little things. Whether or not I agree, I thank you for the effort to take it beyond where I am. He has published the last book, Spain, which has given me a little embarrassment to read out of the house, so eye-catching for red-white skin. And, because the issue excites me, I have been gratified by the attempt to think in a complex way what Spain is. Because the subject excites me, that the people of the South, what they are going to do, for example, we could be French, but they conquered us badly.

There are many things in it, an idea goes through the whole book: That the image we have of Spain is one of the possible images of Spain, that official image that has been integrated in the books, but above all in the consciences of the people. An example would be the persecution of the Moorish, known as the Reconquista, who, if the cat-imperial irritability is not present, was in fact a civil war between castes, that is, what has sold us as reconquests was more a conquest that led to the expulsion of the “Arabs” who for eight centuries were “Spanish”. And the Catholics, of course, did the expulsion, and they were all Catholics, the Castilian, but also the Valencian, Aragonese, Galician, Catalan, let's not say Navarros. Because in the end, we're more equal than we think. “If Catalans and Basques became independent of Spain (…) they would no longer be Spaniards in political-legal terms, but they would need centuries to dismantle all cultural meeting spaces.”

I, not especially Spanish, not especially Basque – I would like French, but not – firmly believe that another Spain is possible – as another Basque Country is possible. It would even be good, healthy, desirable, to imagine another Spain, first for the Spaniards, but also for all those whom Spain inevitably moves.
