Because of the increase in life in the era of artificial intelligence, a friend always makes a joke easy: if we haven't gone from natural cutting to artificial intelligence directly, without going through natural intelligence. Another friend always responds to the need for natural intelligence, even to make such bad jokes.
When you talk so often about advances in technology and artificial intelligence (AI), on the cracked screen of my smartphone, I read a curious survey as I waited to enter a store, instead of occupying just one edge of the street, placing a not-so-smart row that hindered side-by-side sidewalk: according to the article, higher-education people see technology changes much better, just the ones they have. AI is said to be a career opportunity; for the underprivileged, uncertainty and risk.
"Some people said that the technologization and mechanization of life would lead us to work less and to greater social equality"
The article had a marked elitist and simplistic character, and it gave me something to think about. Curiously, I decided to do a survey of people nearby, without any scientific method, that's right. According to the answers I received, most people believe that technology is of great help in everyday life, without any doubt whatsoever. At the same time, however, there are those who feel that certain technological advances are not made, or can be made, or even because they receive private benefits and public subsidies, and then enter and sell to the citizens with a funnel, generating needs that previously did not exist, extending the planned obsolescence and using other tricks.
Because there are not a few who access public resources for development and then privatize results and patents and turn them into enrichment pathways. Because we often see those who, apparently, represent the general public interest by prioritizing the private projects of a few citizens. This and misinformation end up giving rise to mistrust for many.
It would perhaps be a bad way for these companies, in exchange for public aid, to be constrained to spend the time, force and money they spend on devising and publicising their own trepetes in order to prevent the negative effects of these advances, to monitor transitions and the conditions of workers, and to explain in detail to the public how and for what purpose these new technologies should be used so that they are not harmful.
Because we've heard a lot of experts, and it's true that the problem is not technology itself, but what we humans do with technology. To alleviate the concerns, we are told that to be calm, “we” will decide what to do with this type of progress. But who is “us”? Because dozens of years ago, some people said that the technologization and mechanization of life would lead us to work less, and to greater social equality; that new opportunities would be created for those who had previously been unelected, and that we could all live to live not only for everyday and exciting tasks.
We have seen the result: this is certainly not the peaceful, stimulating and just future they announced, except for a few. If those present tomorrow are to be altered, the people responsible for this will have to take urgent action today to ensure that those of the old will not take their eternal steps over those of the old.
