When these lines are published, the regional elections in Catalonia will have been exhausted. The result will bring for the first time the incorporation of a far-right party into the Chamber, despite the fact that many of the voters in Vox have been represented in recent years by the People's Party and Citizens, according to all the demographic projections on the change of vote.
In recent weeks, the far-right campaign has focused on two basic pillars. First, the Spanish vote of the major cities that came from Citizens has been sought, especially in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. The aim has then been to attract voters from medium-sized cities with a high migrant population: For example, Manresa, Salt or Vic, where the missing Plataforma per Catalunya of the racist Josep Anglada obtained many councillors for years.
"I find it unfair to accuse anti-fascist protesters of voting on the extreme right, as they have said from progressive positions"
From the very beginning, all the actions of the campaign have generated repulsive concentrations. Mobilizations have intensified when provocative visits have been made, particularly in countries with the most victims of hate speech: mainly racialized and independentist people. As expected, the intensity of the protests has increased and the Mossos d'Esquadra have shown great concern for the ultra-right, which more than public officials seemed to be a private security service.
Following these events, Vox has opted for the usual and victimizing strategy. He has strengthened his communicative line through the videos of the enziled rallies and has shown himself very comfortable in the premeditated and studied scenario in detail. For this reason, a recurring debate is re-opened: Do you have to make statements to respond to your actions or are you smarter to ignore them?
Even thinking that we are not being able to build a narrative that deactivates its strategy, I find it absurd and unfair to accuse anti-fascist protesters of voting on the far right, as they have said from progressive positions. What really makes them grow is that they are recognised and normalised as a legitimate political force. As if they were another democratic alternative. Although they fly the flag of the denial of human rights to any person, they are intolerant of social minorities and vulnerable groups.
In this campaign, the Electoral Board has imposed on television and public radios to give voice to Vox for obtaining more than 5 per cent of the votes in the last general elections. Many private media have chosen the same route, without being forced to do so. The professional committees of some media have criticised this measure, but nobody has disowned it, and they have kept a loudspeaker on television and on radios for weeks, even in those who boast of wanting to close them.
The strategy of most parties, even in the electoral debates, has been to ignore and not respond to their slogans, with the argument of not giving prominence. The members of Vox have taken the opportunity to spread lies and false data at the peak of the hearing, with no one disputing them. And no, let's be clear that that's not enough now. As Antonio Gramsci said, “Formad, because we need all our intelligence. You're excited, because we need all our enthusiasm. Organize because we need all our strength.” There is no time to lose.
