Against the possessive jealousy: love
Close your eyes. Close your eyes and imagine. Imagine that the proletarian revolution is happening. Now imagine that that revolution that aims to end class oppression has failed to abolish gender oppression. Can you imagine something like this? Well, to facilitate the work, open your eyes and read the Amores of the Worker Bees of the Russian revolutionary Aleksandra Kollontai.
I wrote my last book comment on romantic love, gender oppression and jealousy. The editorials would see that there is and there is also, the readers; in this comment I will continue with these themes. On this occasion, with the help of the editorials Igela and Erein and the literature of Kollontai that has come to us translated Aroa Uharte. The book translated into Basque is composed of three pieces of fiction set in the vicinity of the Russian revolution.
Three works talk about love. The first two (Love in three generations and Sisters) serve more in a didactic way, perhaps too didactic, to know where the author spoke. The third, the short novel Vasilisa Malygina, will immerse us fully in literary work interlaced by gender and class oppression, romantic and radical love and jealousy.
The novel speaks of the love relationship of two members of the revolution, but we find the nodes of today: the desire to overcome the traps of romantic love; the unrecognized work that it brings to the woman; the unconfessed gains that it brings to the man; the distinction between sex/love; the violence of the fragile hegemonic masculinity; the inconceivable work that it brings to the woman; the art and the subordinating practice of the other. Echoes are unimaginable.
Kollontai dares to imagine what radical love can be. He dares to free himself from the weight of class and gender oppression, even if it is literally. He dares to reflect on how to make revolution different.
