Decipher the oldest phonetic writing
- Linear elamés is the writing that was used about 4,300 years ago in today's Iran, the oldest known phonetic writing; that is, the writing that expresses sounds through signs.
The first signs of this writing were found in 1901. Now, experts François Desset, Gian Pietro Basello, Matthieu Kervran and Kambiz Tabibzadeh, after 15 years of work, have managed to read a text from a linear novel.
The first deciphered phrase reads as follows: “I’ve made this silver cube for Marapsha’s lady, Shumar-Asu.”
