In 2020, it is 100 years since the birth of Gianni Rodari, professor, pedagogue, wrestler and writer, and more than 40 of us, and yet his works have not lost any news.
This Zoo of Stories comes from the hand of the Editorial Bilbaína Para de tales y is to thank you for the careful edition you have made, with a hard cover and extraordinary work in the field of translation and illustration.
The book consists of several stories suggested by the title and all are developed inside a zoo. The children Mino and Ricardo go to the zoo with their older sister and decide to prove how brave they are to spend a night at the zoo. Said and done; two days later, the two friends go to the zoo and meet in the book… the meetings and conversations they have with the animals in the area. In fact, a voice in the dark tells them to leave the hiding place as soon as they enter the zoo: “It’s me, elephant. I am Jumbo or so you say it to me. Didn't you know that zoo animals are able to talk at night? Well, now you know.”
And starting with the elephant Jumbo, Mino and Ricardo will be with several zoo animals, and you'll also get to know some of the stories they've been told.
Rodari manages to catch the reader. Light narratives and dialogues, written in a light style, offer us short and interesting stories, many of which are critical to humans, many of which you can think of and all of which have a nice time.
The illustrations by Maite Mutuberria also help to facilitate the reading of the book, so they reflect, but also by the way they are made, in their sweet and imaginative style.
Undoubtedly, this work by Gianni Rodari is highly recommended – like many others that were published long ago in Basque and are exhausted today – by the style and extraordinary vitality of the Italian teacher. His texts have always sought pleasure in the reader, but also the intention to encourage him to act. The aim is to work for a better and fairer society, and that, on this occasion, we will know from the mouths of the animals in this interesting and beautiful book.
