Just as the movements for food sovereignty and agroecology continue to be masulinated in general, the feminist movement has often gone further than the demands and experiences of rural areas. The Tierra Sentituz conference was held in December in Pamplona and Elizondo with the aim of bringing these two worlds closer together. Mugarik Gabe Nafarroa, Mundubat and IPES have participated in the organization of the second edition of these days, in collaboration with the agroecological association Porta and the Observatory for a Culture of the Territory.
“This forum has been part of a broader process that we have been working on since 2016 to address the issue of food sovereignty from a gender perspective,” explains María Pulido Hernando, a Mundubat technique. In recent years, a number of cooperative initiatives have been carried out, such as the Navarre Open Parliament on Food Sovereignty.
The aim of the conference was for feminist groups in rural and urban areas to meet to talk about food sovereignty and to establish common struggles between food sovereignty and feminism. On December 14 to the Plaza de Pamplona! The attendees had the opportunity to deepen and debate in space through workshops and talks. The following day, the forum moved to Elizondo, where besides knowing the agroecological projects of the area, Erdiz Bizirik and Carpinteria, and then what? They took advantage of the initiative to learn about and support the work of the platforms in defense of the territory.
The Pamplona forum brought together more than 100 women from different parts of the Basque Country and the Spanish State. Pulido has stressed that the majority of those affected are organized into groups, both within feminism and in food sovereignty. Over the coming months, all the topics and debates addressed in the forum will be systematized, and the challenge now is to take forward the concrete actions that were defined in Pamplona and to continue working on a joint manifesto. “The Forum has been a further contribution on the road to feminist food sovereignty,” said Mundubat member. A contribution, of course, to confront the new year with enthusiasm and strength.
