Concerto Köln is much more than an orchestra that plays ancient music. It has a long and fruitful track record. Founded in 1985, he has performed many concerts and tours around the world. We can say that it is one of the main formations dedicated to the baroque period in the current musical landscape. But in addition to concerts, this group holds meetings and seminars, and the headquarters of the Concerto Köln has become the first old music center in the city of Cologne.
This group is very linked to the baroque, but it has a wide repertoire ranging from the music of the first baroque to the classicism. In fact, in 2017, they started with a project called Wagner Reading, which intended to conduct a historicist reading of the trilogy The Nibelungo Ring of Wagner.
The proof of the fame that this legendary group deserves is the concert that has taken place in Donostia. Under the batuta of the Japanese violinist Mayumi Hirasaki, they offered a program composed of grossly concerts of the first half of the 18th century.
From the beginning to the end we enjoyed the characteristics of the Concerto Köln: a passionate, fresh and, in the best sense, improvised style. Improvised because the interpretation of each work comes out as if it was the first time, without any orthopedic touch. One thing is to make a good version, and the other is to offer a cool, somehow new version, like this group does.
Its sound characteristics are transparency and delicacy, and so, eight grossi concertis of the program was precisely touched. The first two, dedicated to Christmas, are held in number 8 of Corelli. Concerto grosso op. 6 ‘per la notte di Natale’ and the RV 270 for Vivaldi violin and orchestra in my biggest ‘Il ripo per il Natale’. Concerti grossi op. 3 re in Mayor y op. In 7 the older ones did a deep reading of the works. 3. Charles Avison (student of Geminiani), composer. The concert was performed in a smaller sun, as perfect as the previous ones, and, finally, the Concert for two Telemann flutes in TWV 52-E2 my youngest, melodious and light. Global.
