A window to historical events available to all

On 6 January 1980, the Donostia Balda fronton was filled to hear the final of the Bertsolaris Absolute Championship, organized by Euskaltzaindia after thirteen years of absence. Xabier Amuriza took the txapela and set a milestone: her singing, her school, her melodies -- started a new versification. There was still much to be done – there is only one thing to see that all the finalists were men – but it can be seen as an important first step in reconciling Bertsolaris with the new times.
The photographs that perfectly reflect that historical moment and the atmosphere of the moment are part of the ARGIA archive. Thousands of them are retained. Thanks to cooperation with the Basque Government, through a photo library and image scanning, we will all be able to open that window.
