Surely the dream of all researchers, scholars, literary “manipulators” is, to know who knows, to discover an unknown writer, at least an unknown work of a known writer, to offer that discovery to the world as if it were a new world. Finding a Flaubert, a Zola, a Galdós who wrote in Basque, would introduce live the Olympus of literary historiography, and solemnly that researcher, apprentice, hand-manipulator. It is a difficult task, imposed by Jurgi Quintana in his book Urre urdinaren lilura. In the subtitle In search of the lost Basque writer (1810-1940), the search engine will follow a more possible and credible option of poetry: “Hasn’t there been any Basque poet that overlooked us?”
Therefore, what is proposed here is a search, a trip, and as in all the search trips, the route itself is much more interesting than the goal. In times, in artworks, in candidates this is exciting, more epidermatic than you want, and that's why it's also inspiring. To know if the goal, i.e. one or more discoveries, it is best to read the book. But spoiler let me: “The search has appeared to us in the people on the margin,” he will recognize in the final part. It is known that the edges are always more interesting than the center: “In those who went and came, on the Basque and Erdal shore, between the foreigners who approached and the arrocytes of the area.” And another thing you know, but it's not useless to remember over and over again. “The development of the cultural context increases the likelihood of great authors appearing.”
The glorious literary history that we weren’t, we can hardly complete it now, says Quintana, if not “by the way of Basque apocryphal works.” It would not serve to make our literary tradition stronger, perhaps, but in the meantime, how good we would be. Literature is also for the game, I think it is necessary exercises like that of Quintana, which incite a little to stabilishmint. Proof of this is that the newspaper library of the criticisms comes from the book that most of the criticisms — literary researchers, scholars, manipulators — have left the book a little hot. Let us hope that, “such discoveries (real or apocryphal) are not lacking”.
