New AOA season (and enjoyable)

With autumn comes the new season of our opera. Like every year, we are waiting to receive the doses of the total show. This year we will have six truly interesting sessions at the Euskalduna Palace: titles that are often programmed, semi-unknown jewels of famous composers, singers that we have had among us a thousand times – assured successes – world singers who will act for the first time and young soloists. With these ingredients, without a doubt, the operators have material to enjoy.
The season starts on October 19 with a classic, the opera Lucía di Lammermoor. This masterpiece by Gaetano Donizetti mixes passions and political conflicts to make a fascinating work. We will have two Lucia: on the one hand, the American Jessica Pratt will be the protagonist in four programs, but on 26 October the soprano Leonor Bonilla, who has had a truly meteoric trajectory, interprets the role of Lucia.
The second appointment will be made by Giuseppe Verdi, who on this occasion presents himself rarely with Jérusalem, on 16 November. The tenor Jorge de León will debut in Bilbao with the protagonist character of this opera that premieres this Sunday. It will therefore have the opportunity to demonstrate its reputation.
We entered in 2020 with Der fliegende Holländer by Richard Wagne. We wanted to see a Wagner and therefore we would love to hear this romantic opera, bearing in mind that we will have the opportunity to listen to the unparalleled Welsh Bryn Terfel.
In February we will find a curious gem like the western of Giacomo Puccini, La fanciulla del west. It has nothing to do with other works by this author (La Bohème or Madame Butterfly), but it is a great orchestrated play and we will have interesting interpreters in this production of ABAO and Teatro di San Carlo di Naples.
On 25 April we will have a double session of Rossini. On the one hand the opera Giovanna d’Arco and on the other the fascinating Stabat Mater.
Finally, OLBE will offer the drama Anna Bolena de Donizetti. In this black story of Tudorta, the program will take as the protagonist American soprano Angela Meade, who died in 2008. Delicious.
