Bands of education
On 2 June, in Orereta (Basque Country), a festival was held in favour of the Basque public school, which exceeded the current concerted public system and claimed a unique model of immersion. If I wanted to, we would have the most solid foundation for a long time, but I don't think it comes. We will follow each other with those of our band.
In the past, we have two keys that any Euskaltzale can accept:
• Elbira Zipitria promoted the ikastolas before and after Franco, a popular initiative of andereño teachers and parents who committed to an education in Basque in the underground.
• The Basque public schools such as the one in our neighborhood, a popular initiative of parents and teachers who advocated to give an education in Basque to the 50 black leather boys and girls who were studying in model A and all the neighbors and neighbors.
At present, in theory, most keys are in favor: concerted ikastolas were born with a public vocation. In Public Education – data from Álava as an example – model D is 75%; and model B and A the rest, 20.5% and 4.9% (complemented with boys and girls who, on many occasions, have “oriented” towards it). In Education, STEE-EILAS, LAB and ELA are the majority unions, a composition in favour of the Basque Parliament (? ).
So, could we do something similar to the Catalan immersion model they did in Catalonia in the 1980s? ).
In the future, however, according to all the signs, each one will put the priority in it; and thus, each generation of parents will choose the school according to different factors: the one that has below the house or the one that attracts the most, the one that has the best facilities, the one that does more for the Basque Country, the fee to pay, the level of English, etc.
Well, those of you who can choose that, of course. We will bring together all the other families in schools where teachers are not stable, where a combination of words like “educational project” is an insult, where students naturally learn their place in our society from a young age.
However, calmly, unions, political parties, ikastolas, etc., who are betting on a model of immersion, all of them have – and are doing – and are willing to continue to do so – their thoughts and suggestions. The invitation comes to stay with one another, how much more substantial, more argued, more pleasant...
There, each will be fortified until the dialectic attack of the other.
