I haven’t seen it – everyone has their own cinematic tastes: Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler are not prescribers in my favorite actors list, but I have read elsewhere that the longest part of the film takes place in France and that of Spain is only a short passage. However, this is not the first time that such an image has been produced in the Spanish State. The entrance to hell is in the stigmas that open up in the Doom Patrol series in the hands of a Spanish priest, and both the appearance of the priest and the believers are suspiciously similar to that of those who live south of Rio Grande. With the Basques and the Spaniards in the same sack, the chapter in which McGyver was among the members of ETA in the form of Colombians is mythical.
In addition to the simplification implied by these stereotypes, the origin of the pain is to see that the importance created by the objective of the stereotype is not so great – "They do not know where Spain is" – and that this stereotype is negative – so too is that the Germans are efficient, rigorous and defective is a stereotype, but I do not think that is why anyone is scared.
The writer of El País mentions that Murder Mystery gives an obsolete image of Spain; some characters, for example, carry the colors of the flag – amazing! – in clothing. There is no reason why: it is sad to spend so much money to give such an image, if the majority of politicians from the centre right in Spain – and not a few from the centre-left – are free-of-charge issuing the same regrettable image.
In any case, it's ugly to play with these kinds of stereotypes. This week we will have to see Japan.
