We've interviewed Iker Galartza, who was the creator of Ences Zirkua, in the car. They are going to be about fifteen days in Vitoria-Gasteiz and we have caught him on the way. We have asked him whether they intend to reach places that did not arrive last year, such as visiting Álava. A response from Galartza: “At home, they’re going to make us angry. We are asked when we will play in Tolosaldea and Goierri. Our Circus wants to go to Álava, to Pamplona (seeing the election results I do not know if we will succeed), to Baztan, to Iparralde. More than ‘I want’, I would say ‘you need’.” He also looks further and, thinking about 2020, for example, Barakaldo comes to mind. He does not believe that going to some places with a circus in Basque is a romanticism, but a challenge and a wager. We have asked you for the 2019 timetable, where you are going to go and we have not received any concrete response. Depending on the success of the test, participants will enjoy more or less days on each other. On the other hand, people who are not yet united want to work, but who are not yet. In fact, last year they were four months ahead in Euskal Herria and are eager to do it again six more months, until autumn-winter.
Because the circus is in Euskera, and that's a novelty. We have asked him how people have taken it and Galartza told us that they have heard everything, because in Basque they are the most happy, those who have not considered Euskera to be an impediment, and those who would prefer Spanish: “Will it all be in Basque?” “Won’t you do it in Spanish?” Its members try to attract people who have doubts about language and Galartza remembers that the circus is for everyone, “we speak in the circus, but there are also shows in which the word is not used”. Last year Gorliz had a special audience, among which the Catalan and English speakers, among others, stood out. Even though they knew he was Basque, they were on the card and at the end they asked, “How is that?” Your answer: “Very good, simple, humble, the circus of always, we have returned to childhood.”
The Zirkua Circus consists of a dozen people. In other words, there are twelve who participate in circus shows. All Euskaldunes. The same team as last year. On weekends the 12 becomes a group of 25 people. Wherever they are, they meet with their family members so they can see them and, of course, they get to work; they prepare meals, clean... Galartza likes to say that there are 25 people around our Circus.
According to the reception, Tours Zirkua will continue to tread the corners of Euskal Herria. Last year's brand: four months, twelve locations, 97 performances and 25,000 spectators.
