Maps
- You may have done it before, but when the elections come, I've already noticed on social media. Maps.
Maps of Spain show the general or electoral results of a given party. They are usually given in two colors: one color encompasses Galicia, the Southern Basque Country and Catalonia, and the other, the rest of the State. I have written “Hego Euskal Herria”, but sometimes it is the CAPV; even more so, from time to time Navarra adds a third color to the image; and I have written “Catalunya”, but under its label we should understand the Principality, as often Valencia and the Balearic Islands take the color of Spanish Spain.
The bottom map I have seen, for example, showed the results of Vox: the lowest number of votes has been obtained in these three countries, in which Navarre and the CAPV have joined, with Valencia and the Balearic Islands aligned towards Spain. Like other maps, it contained an invitation for reflection. A rather guided reflection: who voted for fascism and who did not, and therefore the number of democrats like us rises.
Other readings are also possible, in my opinion. For example, in places where Spain is “at stake”, the Spanish right knows how to play pragmatic and votes for other unionist options that accumulate more strength than it is. On the other hand, Vox is not the only expression of hatred, as seen in some of the responses from digital platforms.
As long as they're based on data, these maps are tools that should give us what to think about. But if the goal is to give pleasure by showing how good we are, then they're collecting data in vain. The network has long been offering more effective choices for onanism.
