Txalaparta 2019.
Txalaparta has just published the first work of the collective of women illustrators of Euskera, entitled Hazilan. They are fourteen works, twenty authors, two colors (tile and green) and one theme: nicity. As stated in the preamble: “Art aims to express the subjective experience of reality and has always been filtered by a self.” We have diversity, we've worked in different styles and we've started.
The group was born in 2016 with the aim of “creating a network of authors and launching new projects that bring together comics and feminism”. In their manifesto they say: “In general, humor and satire, and more specifically binetism and comics, have been spaces governed by masculinities. Yes, also in our small Basque Country. When looking at the situation, we were deeply scared to see how traditional and heteronormative we are (being) in the creation of stories and bodies and how little space (being) have the creators who want (being) to oppose that binary vision and go beyond”.
There are paintings, illustrations and comics, collage, schematic drawings and realistic images. Some cartoons are full-page tables, without separative lines, others with sequential comic format. All of them are women, making their experiences visible and valued. The text appears and disappears, often without bunbuyls, until it leaves the vignette. There are few kinetic straight lines, most of the time round appears in the forms. The onomatopeias are not abundant either. Most have alternated two colors, but among those who have opted for one only the tile predominates.
The smoke shines in the pen of the skin and is not surprising because in the collection we have various contributions: the invitation to immerse ourselves in solitude; the possibility of knowing a dystopia; the dialogue about the memories of childhood; the conversion of Narcissus Narzisa; the ego of society; the embodiment of a text; the questioning of tradition; the borders appearing in the construction of identity; the self-irony love Do you cheer?
