We the day of the calderero, the gypsies PNVero day
On the occasion of Calderero's Day, I proposed to a Roma friend that they would celebrate PNVero's day. After I reported in the carnivals of Euskal Herria on the representation habits of the repairing gypsies and Eastern European Gypsy families and the bear character, I was surprised. In some villages they are known as Hungrino.
In the 15th century the Gypsies were welcome, but from the 16th century onwards popular and institutional persecution began against them. Exceptions are granted if the Roma meet a number of requirements: to abandon their identity, to have mutual and obvious use among the Roma and Basques, to speak of Romnel, to have roots…
The Roma have had friends and neighbors in different neighborhoods, in Bilbao la Vieja, in the streets Prim and Ollerías de Santutxu and in Zorroza, for example. In the Herriko Taberna de Bilbao la Vieja was given the opportunity to snack the poorest children of the gypsies. The criterion was solidarity, not charity or paternalism. My grandfather's brother, Gregory, shared with them in the Bengoetxe neighborhood of Galdakao.
Vasquitos often fill the mouth with social integration, but interactions between different are absolutely stereotyped and filled with topics. For example, in an event organized by Céline Esku Dago, in the San Mamés football field, gypsies sang Hegoak ebaki banizkion (The Wing Court). They sang with folkloric music. For the Abertzales it was unimaginable to invite a gypsy rap group. The Roma are not what we want, or what is in our interests. They're gypsies because they're what they are. With Muslims and black people, we invite them to make the couscous or dance barefoot, leaving aside their diversity and their differences.
