Plant oncology
We are eating at home the last apples we have received since last year, the Malus domestica. The ones that are in shape are cauliflower, Brassica oleracea var. botrytis. The ash, the Fraxinus excelsior, is there, still, safe, waiting longer days to blossom.
In front of our door lives a sleek ash. It's not big, but it looks like a peak of land. In recent years, instead of spending a clear winter, the branches are decorated. These adornments are every year more numerous. At first they're green, then they're brown, and at the end they're blackened. Now they're spectacular in winter. A long time ago, I thought I was going to write to you about them, but always backwards, backwards ... I've been woken up by a friend who is planting a new forest. Estella's is the type of oak. This is a mite, Aceria fraxinivora. The mites are small, apparently without eyes, and it only attacks the ash. Most of the time to the newly opened flower, but also to the sprouts, to the leaves, to the twigs... The invisible mite sucks sweat and the tree forms a lump. This strain is weathery and hard. It looks like cauliflower, known in the Netherlands and France as a pasta apple. Taking advantage of the fact that Wikipedia is not yet named, I would propose two names: the ash apple and the cauliflower.
In the last black is a ash tumor. Now they fall, sewn mites, of course. And when the flowers start to open, they'll attack it again. Apparently, mites are female and eggs reproduce without the need for fertilization, without the need for a male. Some lice reproduce in the same way. Reproduction is more effective.
We are becoming more and more aware of these types of tumors, swelling, lupus, or deformations. Some have even found the possibility of specialising in this regard. It's called plant oncology.
