Headlights never turn off forever
I recently saw Ahotsak What is war? Short documentary film on the eyes and heart of the adolescents of the 1936 war. It shows what ideas each of the war has and knowing that the ignorance of children is made up of young people is a relief.
However, both those who have spoken to them at the time of the war and those who have not received this heritage have the opportunity to acquire this knowledge through the Children and Youth Literature: The story of a return of Martin Ugalde (1991), the memoirs of
a Basque cow of Bernardo Atxaga (1991), the Kolosala of Joseba Sarrionandia (2003), the Year of the Lighthouse of Miren Agur Meabe (2006) and Hiru gutun of Iruña (2012) of Patxi Zubizarnovelas ), and various roles of women in war appear in novels that combine different records, narrators and literary genres. These characteristics become even more special when one considers that they appear before adult novels.
See, Agur Meabe has been the first woman to write a novel about war. The young Jon, who has to go to see his uncle the potter once the war begins, tells us the facts. Despite their own narrative role, there are many voices that gather in the narrative, such as that of women activists (their claim is clearer than in other novels). Loaded with metaphors and comparisons, the novel combines different sub-genres (daily, letter, lyrical narration), accounting for various works and creative projects of the Basque culture of pre-war. Witness of historical events, the beacon looks at social conflicts, gender roles and cultural shocks of 1936, offering the reader the way out of the vast sea of oblivion.
