The importance of light
- 500 years ago, in 1519, Miguel Ángel de Buonarro (1475-1564) started the project of building the New Sacristy in the Basilica of San Lorenzo of Florence, to house the graves of the Medicis.
To realize this masterpiece of architecture and sculpture, he studied in great detail the natural lighting of the new headquarters. But in the early 18th century, when the Chapel of the Princes was built next to the sacristy, the luminous effects of Michelangelo became extinct.
Now, with the help of new technologies, a new lighting system has been installed in the room to get the original conditions of light and so, for example, the photographic sculpture can be seen as Michelangelo wants.
