Philosophical plots
Manu López Gaseni has his first book of poems, Aldi hau, azaletik batean, classicism, moderate writing, cult and full of references. Like the slaves of Michelangelo, the poet has pulled from him what he had written all his life, but he had not brought it out: “The reverse of the world/ I have seen it/ across the miracle/ chess of the white rabbit./ All these moments/ will be lost in time/ as tears in the rain.// Before the end it was time to say.”
This book has a social criticism. It also has an occasional goal of searching for formal beauty through pure lyricism and descriptive poetry. There is also a tendency to metaphysics. But philosophical poetry has seemed to me mostly, strictly speaking. I hadn't read a work so deep in thought long ago that it was so astonished at the sculptures, the poets, the time.
There is a review of what we are going to leave here without ending. There is more than one reference to death and its overcoming. The writer would like to delve into what we are, reflecting on why we live, why it's an enigma that comes after the last point. There are hardly any characters, profiles of ezpadi: sick, alter ego or other, own hands, children…
“The song has been dissipated/ colors have gone/ whiteness prevails.// Is the reflection of sunlight/ on the boat fabrics?/ Not dead/ not alive/ but in delirium”. That's how poems go. They don't have time or space. Most of them look for emotion in the brain's limbo, most of which are speech matter. In these inventions without literary figures, therefore, we must seek contradiction and saying, not so much the flower and enthusiasm.
Poems are not one of those swellings of information and tautology. They are not written in Florence at the cinquecento. Although they have a taste and a form of rebirth and, as we have said, an intention is philosophical, they are quite common and quite tender. On the other hand, these kinds of books, which are written on timeless subjects, with used materials, are often too empty. As far as I am concerned, it has often seemed to me that the poet has nothing new to add, nor anything original to wish for.
