Typically, books are placed in a collection. The reader knows in this way how it can be, for whom, for what kind or style… The books of the editorial Denonartean for children are not in the collections, each one has a size, a characteristic, an aesthetic or a special style. We can say that each book is different and, in that sense, we could not say that this last work by Lorena Martínez is special, although, as we shall see, it is a very curious and great book.
This book is called A. And the title, a red letter, fills the skin almost without giving importance to the names of the author and the publisher. In addition, the book is bound in rings and in the book tab we have said it has 32 pages, but in reality it is 16, because in all of them the back is white.
The uniqueness or extraordinary character of the book, however, does not respond to these characteristics. The book is a story told through simple images. It is true that the first page explains why the story will appear later. But I myself would invite the reader to go through that little written account and immerse themselves in the story that Lorena inspira.En the first image appears the wolf, which runs on the left
of the page, with evil and malicious appearance. On the second page, we see the girl sitting quietly on the right of the page, looking right. Then comes the wolf’s head ready to go to her on the left… and in the fourth figure yelling “A”, terrorizing the girl.
We're not going to start here what it represents and what the image of the wolf looks like in our imagination. In popular stories the wolf appears as an evil and violent animal and it is normal that the protagonist feels attacked, scared and scared. Instead, Lorena Martinez teaches us that the girl who faces the wolf is able to say “A”; she can cry louder than a wolf.
The proposal made in this book is really interesting. It is a work that teaches young children (whether they are girls or boys) the means to confront adults, strong, aggressive; moreover, that girls who have always been humble, silent, tidy, can be brave, strong, courageous. And at the same time, love, friendship, is the most powerful weapon we have in front of violence.
