For a while, girls and boys from families in social difficulties, wanting to participate as little as possible in the oppressive socio-economic system, try to settle in the world of manufacturing: they cultivated their creative capacities in the production of jewelry or decorations. Nowadays, with the objective of not feeding or hindering the liberal socio-economic system, these types of adolescents choose professions that seek nature and the body: naturopath, masseuse, hypnotizer, yoga, etc., that promote well-being and real relationships with nature. At least that has been told to me by an educator who works in Baiona. Many of these young people follow rapid training courses, week or month amounts, in most expensive private schools, and are immediately set up as specialists at the time of completion of the studies.

There is nothing more than looking around us: if there is a single naturopath or a single hypnotizer, the client is looking at him. This situation makes me reflect a little. The transmission of traditional knowledge about nature, both at home and in society, has been broken for two generations in the name of progress and modernisation. Wisdom about herbs, trees, plants, the moon and stars no longer flows from one generation to another as a sign of witchcraft and delay. However, it is understandable that society, and especially young people who are satisfied with poverty, seek to recover that knowledge, because modernity has attracted evil, poison and pollution.

However, I believe that the adolescents mentioned are at risk of making mistakes: there are many training centers that choose that are not very serious. How is it possible that an ignorant could become a doctor for weeks or months, when his old generations of men had forged wisdom for centuries? And when do classic doctors have to go on studying for at least seven years? In addition, the sects are not far away: How is it possible that the teaching of these schools, which are under such or such a label, does not depend on an enlightened one? In fact, on many occasions, every school has its history and its network: How do you know exactly how they're going to be? As a professor, at least I wouldn't know how to help a young man get on his way in that field, and if I wanted to personally invoke alternative medicine on the ground, I wouldn't know where to go.

What is evident is that we live in an age of skepticism and widespread mistrust: medicine and classical or official wisdom, linked to the neoliberal system, can be reduced and attracted by alternative methods. But how do we know if these roads are good or blind, among the road to shrubland promoted by neoliberalism? Advertising extols individual well-being for the benefit of multinationals, while sects propose costly and laborious meditation and fasting stays. How to get to know a real alternative doctor who grossly advises healthy and unconventional remedies?
In this situation, we parents and teachers who are enlightening have to develop more than ever in young people, in my taste, critical spirit and courtesy, both in terms of the system and the times of which we are subjects – who perhaps do not deserve only relentless contempt – and in the absurd paths that lead us to hope or despair.
