Mobilisation is always effective
- There are not few who think that the mobilizations of workers and citizens, strikes, occupations, fasting, lockouts… are of no use at all. And following this argument, they find a justification not to join the movements or strikes that are usually organized or not to go out into the street to claim their rights. That is not the case. The strike, the closure, the occupation of companies and facilities and the demonstration on the street, in short the mobilisation, is always effective. Not only because we defend our dignity, but because many short- and long-term goals and demands are achieved.
In recent times, among the various mobilizations, the pensioners in Hego Euskal Herria and the Spanish State stand out, as well as the movement of Jakas Amarillo in Iparralde and in the French State. In the case of pensioners, they have mobilised governments: in addition to raising the lowest pensions, they have had to update the purchasing power of others. As for Basque pensioners, they have gone much further and are almost about to achieve a basic increase to supplement their pensions. But once the agreement between the PNV and EH Bildu has been broken, the budget extension for the CAV comes in 2018. This situation will encourage pensioners to increase their mobilisations, as they did last weekend. The tension between the PNV and EH Bildu has arisen precisely through these mobilizations. The President of the French Government, Emmanuel Macron, has had to raise the inter-branch minimum wage by EUR 100 and take other measures, although we do not yet know whether they will be sufficient to reduce the social tension in France.
Mobilization, yes, is always effective. But don't have schirole or stay at home with crossed hands while others are on the street.
