Protecting others
After the death of his friend Omar’s hamster in an acrobatics accident, Ane became sad, fearful and got to work so his hamster Pit “didn’t do the same.” This idea is based on the story written by Txabi Arnal and Edu Zelaieta. And as at the beginning (“three things happened in Ane’s life”), through the repetitive structure the events that happened in Ane’s life are depicted in the story Screws. First we have three curious events at school, then three at the door of the house, and finally three poisonings appeared. After the meetings at the school and on the portal, Ane’s parents suspect that the person responsible for all the events is very close… and they discover it when the girl confesses everything to them. Ane is picking up screws to make a machine that protects her parents and doesn't end up like Omar's Hamster.
The authors have used a lot of imagination and humor to tell all the anecdotes that happen throughout the work, we have more and more mystery as the facts advance and the reader will realize that the screws are missing pieces in the school skeleton, piano, map, portal window, neighbor's bicycle, etc.
Just as the repetitive structure of the story facilitates reading, the narrative is aggravated, since many facts and the like are collected in a very small number of pages. It is also true that realistic illustrations help to read and understand, because in some cases the message of the illustration takes us beyond what the text says, and above all the hint of the screws the reader will receive it from the illustrations.
The language used by the writers seemed to me to be elevated in the light of the readers, but it is understandable with the help of the illustration and the brevity of the texts.
We have mentioned humor before and the truth is that the story manages to leave the smiling reader; the narrative is a collection of jokes, thoughts and jokes… or, putting ourselves more seriously, how a child can react to death; the book, which from this moment belongs to each of the readers, is also to interpret their story, laugh or get serious.
