Wednesday, 20 p.m. Gothic room of the Palace of the Condestable illuminated with night club claro, with six spectators in sight. It tends to be like this, one day you have the room overflowing and the next day six pairs of eyes hold you the show. At times, the Basque theatre occupies fewer seats than it deserves. However, the sparse public does not fall at the level of creations, let alone at the level of actors such as Iñaki Ziarrusta. In these times when mere creation in Basque is a gift, each of the six spectators received the gift that corresponded to him.

He was a normal, familiar, company worker, known in the village. Normal type: corrupt and rapist male. This is how the protagonist of the play presents the victim of his revenge. Sitting on the bench of Camerino, combing the melena with his pink nails, he legitimately uncovered each of the reasons for revenge. History is based on facts lived in any village and in any family around us: rape and sexual harassment. From the perspective of his little brother, he confesses to us with anger that what his sisters suffered in the hands of that normal man stole his childhood. One more example of raw and painful stories, dressed up normally.

But crudety blends with sensuality in this scenario. The lights of the Night Club occasionally turn that little brother into a strong pole-dancer, and memories of his childhood are mixed with nocturnal erotic choreographies that cross from one side to the other of the bar. Despite the fact that what the normal man has done is considered normal, it is clear to the protagonist that these persecutions cannot be left unpaid. In particular, he plans step by step the strange vengeance with cold blood:

First of all, it has to become a woman. But not just any woman, but the model of hyperscented, sexualized woman that normal rapist man would want to consume. “A huge slut,” in his words, taking into account the aesthetic sacrifices and high heels required by this beauty canon. In addition to aesthetics, it also has to experience the fear that women in this society may feel as women. And that is that always a man who has been has had to disassemble his roles in order to be able to interpret the role of the woman. It is beautiful to see that the process of revenge largely coincides with the process of character construction by Ziarrusta. The second step of revenge is to convert it into a pole-dancer and prepare an erotic dance that seduces the normal type. And finally, most importantly of all, waiting for the right conditions for revenge. That is, the protagonist of the work defigures a less normal vengeance to the measure of that normal man. Or what's the same, poetic justice.

But, oh! This is a work by Ziarrusta and, therefore, you cannot be quiet in the chair. Notice in advance, be attentive to all the details, do not relax. Stories are because they turn history around, and imagination can hide a lot of lies. When reality and fiction come together, anyone can fall into the trap of storytelling. Don't try to escape, don't take a look. Because rapists are ordinary people, the victim of Tomiris can be any of us.
