In Eibar he went to the days of the young poets organized by Asier Serrano, and with a deep silence we heard the poems as beautiful, as violent as those of Leonard Cohen. He had references, he had realized the importance of rhythm. Those poems were universal, easy to understand, normal.
What we most admired was that normality that fluttered our bowels. And since then there have been several winters and Goikoetxea (Gernika, 1974) comes with a book of poems, made of normal poems, perhaps without the epic of youth, but full of heroic facts of everyday life: “And in the/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/off/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/on/off/on/on/on/off/on/on/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/off/
Human stations happen and they happen in the stanzas. Childhood appears; also love; the last spring of death. It is a pleasure to be alive and to savor the serenity of Josu Goikoetxea, to see from his own eyes several delicious tragedies.
Is this glare the result of the complication of these seemingly simple poems?
This is not true of what Koldo Izagirre said in the Reyno de los Molinos, that is, we are not able to tell the truth as beautiful as it is false. What is true, what is lie? In human existence, aren't the two embellished? This vulgar deception constitutes the essence of the book, of the end as is the journey: “Itakara/ etorri/ hazia/ huntz-orria// No award/ No loria/ Lost/ memory”.
In the world of Josu Goikoetxea, the world of the ilintia, a notebook paper, his father’s coat… everything is light and charged with meaning. Everything is profound and without hints. Everything is elevated and humble. It is not easy to explain because it has to do with the choice of words. And with internal rhythms. In the days of the young poets we listened with envy to these poems, after so many winters, they came back to us.
