At the beginning of this new course, two events similar to those that have happened next have attracted attention: on the one hand, that on the first Sunday of October the Labortan Congress will not be held this year, and on the other, that the meeting “to life or death” of EHZ. This news echoes the desperate, burned and lost conversations they have had with acquaintances throughout the summer. The ups and downs are not new to popular movements. In the Basque Country, the same processes that are observed worldwide occur; let us relativize the issue.
A lot has been written about the EHZ festival. I am too fond to share thoughts on this. To simplify it, I would say that in the last 20 years he has performed two functions: one looking inwards and the other looking outwards. I would say that these two functions are still necessary.
Looking outward, reaping reverence, it must be acknowledged that in the last two decades the cultural landscape has changed a lot. What was a subversive (singing in Basque or arranging a rock concert) has become normal. Some say it's not a bad sign if the RSI goes away. It is the consequence of standardisation. I do not agree. Alongside the aseptic cultural offer ingested by the market, there is a need for a radical alternative.
Let us not limit ourselves to reproduction and let us not confine ourselves to cosmetic changes. Let youth look for new forms of abrasive expression
Today's entrepreneurs don't have to just manage the tools that previous generations have created. Create, invent, experiment, venture. As a friend says, our people need “more Indian and less boss”; “fewer managers and more creators”. Let us not limit ourselves to reproduction and let us not confine ourselves to cosmetic changes. Let youth look for new forms of abrasive expression. An event that disguises, shakes and sensitizes people. Let us admit that the ancients have every right to spoil and fail what we have conveyed to them.
Looking inwards, if the EHZ disappears, where will the militants of different horizons who want to change Euskal Herria share a work shift? In this twenty-first century, where will you find the young man of the Gaztetxe de Garazi, a militant of the Ernai movement, autonomous of the Amankomuneak network, feminist woman of Hazparne, Euskaltzale of Iruñea, playwright of Itsasu, creator of Bermeko, antifascist of Baiona, neighbor of Errekaleor, activist of Environmentalist of Geist What is your shared space?
We have a thousand reasons to be nostalgic, because in its history that people have been able to do gigantic things. We also have reason to be optimistic, because as we are a stone moving in the future, no moss will appear on our society. Cheer!
The Council of Euskalgintza is warning of the linguistic emergency we have been experiencing in recent weeks. Several years have passed since the beginning of describing the situation of the process of revitalization of the Basque country at the crossing, at the roundabout, at... [+]
