About the water
The poetry competition for young people by Donostia Kultura and the editorial Balea zuria already has its first prize in the category of poetry. Natural from Pamplona, born in 1991. It says: “I have a white page/ the most faithful confidant,/ the words constrained/ silent fall upon them.”
Eli Tolaretxipi, Itxaro Borda, Aritz Gorrotxategi and Pello Otxoteko were able to see the hidden force of the sketch. In fact, it has an Azalberritze (Ballea zuria, 2018) for the green and for the adult, but above all it has seemed to me a history of search. Hence his advantage, and his last.
The result of the method and the obsession of years, it is evident that it has been a bounded book: “As if everybody forgot the aurora,/ we only walk cats/ wandering,/ owners of the avenues,/ as if we were silent traces of Cortázar,/ on telephone cables/ waiting for the swallows to return that will rest.//Return.” Writing and reading mix with day to day. In the book he is surprised several times by reflecting on poetry, and in other cases he becomes a book on his cover. Sometimes he has also seen the lyrical in shop windows.
Irregular as the decline of the readings of the years, I would lengthen some poems from the book, draw some more ideas at the tip. And, on the other hand, why: the writer wanted to convey a kind of intimism with rounded edges, without stridences. Not saying a word higher than the other is what makes it pleasant and essentially thin. Here the white page is the space for confession, but confession is moderate. It can be said that such a superior project has been done with small intentions: “The path from vacuum to totality can be long and twisted/ when there is no leap.// It seems eternal to me.”
And maybe because of all that we've said, and because of its apparent sophistication, it seems written about water. It has style, it has rhythm, it has the word where it has to have it and the punchline. But reading it evaporates. Esti Martínez Díaz de Cerio has written at the age of twenty-seven some stanzas that are usually written at the age of seventeen.
