The amatxin I loved red
With the arrival of the summer, Ikas's friends presented four new stories. Four translations and of different styles; one of them, Gorri!, the work we have in hand and, if I am not mistaken, the first book in Basque of the prolific writer Alice Brière-Haquet. The cover of the book is red, how not, playing with black and white an image (forest and road?) It contains the names and titles of the authors. It's the red, yes, the important element of this book -- well, the red starts all with a beloved amatxin. “There was once, in a small forest, a very pollite amatxin. Her hair was red, her sturdy rosal, her silky red seducer and her red trim. That was his favorite color.” This is how the authors begin the story of this story.
And just like on the front page, inside there are also illustrations made in white, black and red. The images are made with large strokes, new, powerful… but they also have an air of those made by the Basque illustrators of a century ago (Txiki and).
Grandma gives her grandson, a grandson, two stockings to sew in the grass, two gloves to store the fungi, a very long necklace, special for the great colds, an ear spoon and, finally, a red cap. But everywhere the grandmother's gift causes problems to the granddaughter (the barbarians think the stockings are strawberries, the rabbits take the gloves like an apple, the bull goes behind the collar, a necklace picks the ears in search of a worm, the picocha cap in the cherry…), finally, amatxino wears it from head to toe, the red jacket, the pants, the red jacket…
And the grandson goes into the forest. “Believe me, believe me, nothing can happen to you.”
And with those words of the grandmother ends the story, or the story text, because in the image you see the girl through the forest, with a red cap, and between the trees she looks at the wolf ...
A simple story, which can be heard in Suletino from the Ikas website, and although for those of Hegoalde a few difficult words can be given, it is easily followed and offers a great game opportunity (and all at five euros). n
