Why have these deaths occurred? Precariousness has led to an increase in occupational accidents and damage to health, but it is true that this cannot be blamed. The violation of company health and safety standards also has to do with the situation of workers in their jobs, and workers and works councils also have a responsibility, because in many cases they do not require compliance with occupational safety measures wherever necessary. In any case, the temporality, the outsourcing, the hours that come apart, that is, the job insecurity that is exacerbated during the summer, kills. And as we have seen, what happened in August has only confirmed that.
All this is part of the labor economic policy promoted by the current neoliberal system, that is, capitalist, in a more modern language. It is a system that dominates European society, the territories of Euskal Herria and the governments of Pamplona and Vitoria, and that affects us both in the north and in the south. The introduction of a more social, fairer and humane system should necessarily lead to an improvement in the working situation. We have a personal responsibility on the way to achieve this, and also all politicians seeking to transform society.
