Fingerprints, 4,000 years of signatures
- In 1886, Charles Darwin's cousin, Francis Galton, stated that all people had their special fingerprints and calculated the probability of finding two equal marks: one in 64 billion.
However, in spite of such precision, this characteristic feature of fingerprints was known from ancient times. 4,000 years ago, the Babylonians used them to sign contracts, and they've been found on clay tablets that collected the details of the transactions.
They have also been found on the clay seals of ancient China. And in the 15th century Persia, some government official documents were also signed with fingerprints.
