These are issues on the table of governments and in public debate. The movement of pensioners, especially in the Basque Country, who have promised improvements in mobilizations but have remained in time because, in their view, they are not enough. Last week they moved to the Spanish Senate to pass their demands on politicians and parliamentarians.
The multinationals and the large banks are closely following the objectives of pensioners, who want to impose a special tax on them in order to solve the problem of the pension deficit. The banks, by mouth of the BBVA CEO, have threatened and blackmailed the Government of Pedro Sánchez not to accept this tax. He says it would be “a mistake” and it would mean “an increase in credit.” Banks, like multinationals, do not want to touch on the accumulation of profits or the beautiful dividends received by shareholders. That is why they threaten that the tax will affect their customers. It is a way of blackmailing the government.
The Sanchez Government has been weak since its birth, but it should not give in to this blackmail and should keep a firm pulse for large companies and banks to finally make a very small part of their millionaire profits. Go ahead, therefore, with these taxes to solve the pension deficit. To achieve this, I would have the support of the pensioners and, consequently, the support of a large part of the Spanish Parliament, as it had already arrived at La Moncloa.
